Patachitra Art in Orissa
This ethnic art form, from the state of Orissa, is done on cloth which the artists prepare by coating it with a mixture of chalk and gum made from tamarind seeds. Characterised by exquisite, painstaking workmanship, the tradition of Patachitra is closely linked with the worship of Lord Jagannath and the subject matter is typically based on mythological or religious stories and folklore.
